Ten years blogging!

It just rather struck me as I sipped a very tasty matcha latte and was gazing down South Street watching busy students striding off to start their day that I have reached a milestone in my blogging life. 10 years indeed.

Now that is something and a lot of blogs, almost 325 (324 in fact). It hasn’t brought fame nor loads of filthy lucre, nor a huge worldwide adoring readership, nor any book deal, nor have I bagged a top journalism job. The only thing I remotely bagged was the Sunday Times sports journalist David Walsh’s golf one back at the Dunhill in 2017. And that proved as fruitful as a box of rotting tomatoes.

Albeit I do believe I wrote one of my best articles for Hong Kong Golf Monthly on the back of it. Not that David gave me any feedback on my article whatsoever after I sent him it. Sour tomatoes what? I suppose he is a busy man. But hmm.

Anyway I have persisted with my blogging for good or bad and it does always give me something creative to do when at a loose end, like today as I was contemplating the straw of my matcha latte.

On the golf front I have been plying away at the range a lot and believe I have found something big for me, in a squarer takeaway and a formidable wrist cock. Of course it’s still early days but signs are promising.

Outwith that my tour guiding season is almost at an end. It has been great and I have firmed up some good contacts with Rusacks and the Old Course Hotel, an American outfit called Abercrombie and Kent and the excellent enterprise that is Kevin Fogarty and his company Scottish Golf Experience that offers a whole lot more than your standard golf tour company. And it’s well nigh time as a lot of these guys have got a bit complacent.

On a different note, I am very excited about the prospect of going skiing to Morzine this year. My old ski instructor mate Ricey (aka Ambroggio McLintock) runs a wee ski company out there and has a chalet with a bothy. This could work awfully nicely. Ricey is a bit of a massive character and we hark back to Hillend Ski Slope in Edinburgh where we taught skiing and set up The Big Fun Company running weekend trips up to Aviemore. And boy was that fun.

And I suppose we all want and indeed need to have a wee bit of big fun at times.

Long live the fun.
