I don’t usually listen to Donald Trump or indeed look at the guy as I find his rhetoric quite excruciatingly painful and his arrogant smirk immensely annoying.
But I forced myself the other day when he talked about his plan to create the Riviera of the Middle East in the Gaza strip. He talks as his real-estate self can only talk about how it will be ‘beautiful and for people of all the world’ and how the USA of course will own it and there will be ‘hotels and offices and (slight pause here) other things’.
Of course he couldn’t quite bring himself to say that the ‘other things’ were obviously golf courses as even this man at some juncture has to show a modicum of political savvy.
But that for sure is what this oh-so-crass deal-making convicted felon has in mind. Forget the Geneva Convention, the ethnic cleansing, the impossible displacement of these poor and so oppressed people, because when big Don sees a deal then everything else goes out of the window. Because his life is about the deal.
It is quite shocking. Quite repulsively shocking. And a deep worry to the nation that is America now and its constitution and the balance of power in the Middle East and the critical geopolitical balance of the free world.
But if he gets his Florida of the Middle East I suppose he doesn’t really care. He is a deal maker and apparently that is how the world goes around. It’s quite simple in his stupid and simple mind.
And of course we know he doesn’t care about much else. Well apart from winning the Nobel Peace Prize apparently and of course winning at golf which he does frequently by all accounts.
